oimbWe just returned from our counselor tour of the University of Oregon. Highlights include the new Lundquist School of Business, including an exciting entrepreneurship program, the Oregon Institute of Marine Biology (pictured to the right), a unique undergraduate 5-year program in Architecture, and the award-winning “Flux” magazine produced entirely by students in The School of Journalism and Communication.

We also paid a visit to Babson College near Boston. The college has received recent acclaim in Entrepreneur Magazine for its topnotch program for business entrepreneurs. We returned from a visit to Harvard University to learn of a review of the undergraduate curriculum to emphasize study and research abroad, and to place a great emphasis on the sciences. This change may be reflected on other campuses that do not already emphasize these as part of their core.

Out visit to the University of British Columbia alerted us to the benefits of this nearby gem. Its library is at the center of a magnificent campus which includes an array of programs and internships for students. The setting in Vancouver is terrific for outdoor activities and cultural events, and the school has a strong international focus.

We saw firsthand that Occidental College in California (right) also offers strong internship opportunities, and a strong international focus and community focus. It was interesting to visit both CalTech and MIT within a few months of one another as this provided an excellent opportunity to compare these two crossover schools.

The University of Denver continues to construct new facilities and build programs including a strong journalism and communications program. Their Learning Effectiveness Program is known nationwide as providing some of the best support to students with learning disabilities.
