If students are considering applying to specific programs for college, such as architecture, engineering, or nursing, experiencing a summer program prior to applying can aid in the decision to focus on a specific field. Other programs offering hands-on activities include community service, study skills for students with learning disabilities, and outdoor adventure. Scholarships are available for many of these programs.

The EPGY Summer Institutes at Stanford University will offer a new music course in Summer 2010, which will be taught by a team of musicians including the St. Lawrence String Quartet, Stanford artists in residence. The course will run from June 20 through July 9 and will be a multi-disciplinary mix of music theory, history, criticism, and performance. Stanford also has a very popular Business course that is offered in both sessions of the program, either June 20-July 9 or July 12-August 7.

CIP Summer Program offers teens with learning differences (age 16-19) a unique opportunity to learn valuable skills that are necessary for making a well-prepared transition from high school to college or while pursuing vocational interests. This program is offered at several college campuses across the country for students with ADD, Asperger’s, and other learning differences.

Few universities offer as comprehensive a listing of programs as Brown University. Programs range in length from one week to seven weeks with multiple options and schedules available.  Students can study overseas in Brown programs in Spain, France, Italy, and Greece. Brown also offers The Leadership Institute and TheaterBridge for students who prefer a focused program.
