Update on the University of Washington Waitlist

The admissions office at the University of Washington provided a very helpful update on the waitlist today. The May 1 returns are in and they will be going to their waitlist – though only modestly this year.

Up to 150 currently waitlisted students, mostly resident, will receive an offer of admission during the next week or two.  Once these students have had adequate opportunity to confirm their enrollment  the projected enrollment will be reassessed and a much smaller second round of waitlist offers will be made.  This second round of offers will most likely occur mid-June or later.

In addition to making a first round of waitlist admission offers this month, the admissions office will also inform most of the remaining students on the waitlist who now clearly have no chance of admission that they should definitely plan on their alternate college choice.  When these May communications are complete, there should only be a hundred or so students on the waitlist from which to enroll the last group in June.  They are anticipating closing the waitlist entirely by July 1 while building a freshman class of 5500-5550 students.

  1. I was just curious as to how many people were on the waitlist and how many you expect of those to get in?

    Thank you

  2. Good question Linda, however that information was not provided in the very helpful update from the UW admissions office. The number of students admitted from the waitlist will depend on how many accept their offer of admission, and whether or not the admissions office goes deeper into the list.

  3. I know that last year most of the students enrolled in the wait list got in. There was well over 1,000 students. Since they have only admitted 150 students so far, and plan on offering less acceptances in mid June, does that mean they will not be using the waitlist as much as they did in 2009? And if you are still on the waitlist, should students still mail their high school transcript?

    Thank you

  4. The UW Admissions office recently sent out letters to some wait-listed students letting them know they would not be offered a place this Fall. Many students still remain on the wait-list, but they will not be going to the wait-list to the extent they did last year.

Wait-listed students send their final transcripts only if they are admitted as all files are now complete.

  5. How many students still remain on the waitlist? Also when are the next batch of acceptance letters supposed to arrive?

    Thank you

  6. The Admissions office mentioned in their earlier notification to counselors that around 100 students would still remain on the waitlist in June. They also said that the waitlist would be closed by July 1st and that they would enroll the last group in mid to late June. I suggest you talk to the admissions office for any updates on your particular situation.
