Dartmouth’s year-round academic calendar of four ten-week terms allows students to decide when to study on campus and when to use time away to gain work experience, engage in service, be an intern, or study abroad. The “D-Plan” requires all students to be enrolled in a full load of courses during the summer quarter after their sophomore year (Sophomore Summer). Many say that this quarter is more relaxed, and the students enjoy taking advantage of the many outdoor activities.

Dartmouth is expanding its focus on interdisciplinary education by offering a way to plan a major using a variety of departments. Dartmouth offers a general engineering program that is balanced by a strong liberal arts curriculum. This Division I college has a strong varsity athletic program as well as a popular outdoor program. Dartmouth has a unique Native American program and offers on-campus diversity programs for high school students.
